Red Velvet Cake

This recipe is very near and dear to my heart! It has been a recipe that has been in the family for quite sometime and was given to us from one of my mother’s dearest friends! It isn’t nearly as difficult as red velvet cake can be made out to be, and is actually one of the more easier cakes I can make and know that it will turn out absolutely divine! Who’s ready for a cake made to knock your socks off?! See below for the recipe!

  • 1 1/2 cup oil
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 tsp cocoa
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Red food coloring
  • 1 can of cream cheese icing

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Combine oil, sugar, eggs, vinegar, and vanilla and mix together.
  3. Add flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt and add buttermilk periodically while mixing all ingredients.
  4. Add red food coloring according to your preference. I prefer for my cake to be very, VERY red, so I generally add half of a small bottle of food coloring, if not more. The beauty of this cake is, it can actually be any color you want! If you want a pink velvet cake, just add less red food coloring, if you want a purple velvet cake, add some purple food coloring!n It is really up to you.
  5. Pour into a greased 9X13 pan and bake for 30 minutes.
  6. Once the cake is cooled it is ready to be iced! You can always make your own cream cheese icing, but the can tastes just as delicious to me and that’s what I have always used. Spread the icing around the cake and enjoy!

Don’t Forget the Sprinkles!
